BMW E30 Interior & Trim Parts Guide: Door Panels, Headliner, Visors & Bumper Trim

BMW E30 interior and trim parts guide with black coupé door panels

Most BMW E30s that come up for restoration have the same problems: a sagging headliner, warped or split door panels, cracked sun visors, a tired rear bumper and a trunk that has lost its carpet. The catch is that many of these parts are not shared across the range. A coupé door panel will not go on a sedan, a headliner for a car with a sunroof will not fit a car without one, and early and late bumpers are different.

This guide goes through the E30 (1982 to 1994) part by part: what we stock, which body styles each listing names, and what to check before you order.

BMW E30 Door Panels (Door Cards)

E30 door panels, or door cards, warp when the backing board gets damp, and the vinyl splits around the armrest and the pocket. Ours are black and made for the two-door car.

Front door panels. The front door panel pair is listed for the coupé and convertible, with OEM references 51411937353 and 51411937354.

Rear side panels. The rear side panel pair covers the two panels beside the rear seat and is listed for the coupé.

Complete set. If both are worn, the 4-piece coupé set keeps the colour and grain the same all round.

We don't list door panels for the four-door sedan or the Touring, which share the same doors. If you have either, ask us before ordering.

Door Seals and B-Pillar Trim

If the cabin is damp or the doors whistle at speed, the seals have usually gone hard. The coupé door seal set and the four-door sedan door seal set replace the seals on the doors themselves. On the body side, the front door aperture seal (listed as 51711906960) runs around the door opening. It is sold as one piece per door opening and arrives a little long, so you trim it to length on the car. Complete kits that add the trunk and windshield seals are in the E30 collection.

With the door panels off, the plastic B-pillar trim is often cracked too. The coupé has an upper B-pillar trim pair (51431904793 and 51431904794). For the sedan there is a lower B-pillar trim pair (51431933732 and 51431933731) and a set of B-pillar handle bracket clips.

BMW E30 Headliner

The E30 headliner is foam-backed vinyl on a moulded shell. With age the foam turns to dust and the vinyl drops. Before you order, check two things: the body style, and whether the car has a sunroof.

Coupé with sunroof. The coupé headliner is beige vinyl with the sunroof opening cut out.

Sedan without sunroof. The sedan headliner is beige vinyl with no sunroof opening.

We don't currently list a coupé headliner without the sunroof opening, a sedan headliner with one, or a Touring headliner. For those, ask us before ordering.

If the sunroof is part of the job, there is the front sunroof seal (54128106928) for the coupé and sedan, and a crank handle for manual sunroofs (54121859594).

BMW E30 Rear Bumper and Bumper Trim

Early E30s have metal bumpers: chrome on Euro cars and large aluminium 5 mph bumpers on US cars. Late cars have plastic bumpers. Euro cars changed with the September 1987 facelift, US sedans and coupés for the 1989 model year, and US convertibles in late 1990. US plastic bumpers have side marker lights at the corners that Euro bumpers don't. Go by the bumper on your car, not the year.

M-Tech 2 style rear bumper. If the whole bumper is the problem, the M-Tech 2 style rear bumper is an aftermarket one-piece bumper in satin black ABS. The listing gives it as a direct fit for late-model sedans, coupés and convertibles, with sliding brackets built in to match the original mounting points, and recommends professional fitting. Early metal-bumper cars need bodywork to take it.

Euro rear bumper trim. To give a US car the Euro look, the Euro rear bumper trim set covers the side marker holes. It is 3 pieces (left, right and centre, OEM 51121945926, 51121945927 and 51121945928) for any E30 with late plastic bumpers. The pieces clip on, each corner piece is also held by one screw, and the set can be painted.

Front. At the front, the front lip spoiler (51711968488) is listed for 1988 to 1992. Tail lights are listed separately for early (1982 to 1988) and facelift cars in the E30 collection.

BMW E30 Sun Visors

E30 visors crack along the hinge, and the vanity mirror covers break off. Visors are largely shared between body styles, so the main things to match are the colour and whether you want the mirror cover. All of ours are sold as left and right pairs.

Black pairs. Listed for the coupé and the convertible, plus a third pair listed by model (325i, 318i, 320i and others). These listings state that clips are not included, so reuse your old ones.

With vanity mirror cover. Pairs with the mirror cover are listed for the 320i, in beige for the coupé and black for the sedan.

Grey. A plain grey pair is listed for the coupé. Other colours are available on request.

BMW E30 Trunk

The trunk is the part of an E30 that gets forgotten, and on many cars the carpet is gone and the lid lining is torn. Three listings cover it.

Trunk mat. The carpet trunk mat in anthracite is listed for 1985 to 1992 and is made from an original sample.

Trunk lid cover. The trunk lid cover (listed as a boot lid cover, 51491916246) is the panel around the tool kit, in light grey leatherette, listed for 1985 to 1992.

Seatback panel. The trunk seatback trim panel covers the back of the rear seat on the trunk side, in grey.

Floor Mats, Seat Fabric and Seat Belts

E30 mats wear through under the driver's heel, and seat centres go thin long before the bolsters.

Floor mats. Black carpet mat sets are listed separately for the coupé (1984 to 1992) and the sedan (1982 to 1991), either with a heel pad or with an M stripe. The links here are the coupé versions; the sedan sets are in the E30 collection. These are mat sets, not full moulded floor carpet.

Seat fabric. The BMW seat cloth is listed for the E30 and several other BMWs. It comes pre-laminated onto scrim foam and is sold by the metre. The listing allows one metre for the centre panels on the back and base of two seats, and two metres for front and back seats.

There is also an embossed M Rain seat cloth, sold the same way.

Seat belts. Faded belts can be re-webbed with the seat belt fabric, in M stripe or Motorsport colours.

Under-Dash Knee Panel

The panel under the steering column is often cracked or missing on older cars. Ours is a plastic reproduction in two versions: left-hand drive (51451917351) and right-hand drive. Each listing states it does not fit the other. The listings name the E30 M3, but this is the standard E30 panel for cars without a driver's airbag. If your car has an airbag steering wheel, ask us first.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are door panels and door cards the same thing?

Yes. "Door card" is the common name for the trimmed interior door panel. Ours are listed for the coupé, and the front pair also names the convertible. Ask us if you have a sedan or a Touring.

Which E30 headliner do I need?

It depends on the body style and on whether the car has a sunroof. We list a beige coupé headliner with the sunroof opening and a beige sedan headliner without one.

Will the Euro rear bumper trim fit my US E30?

It fits any E30 with the late plastic bumpers, and on a US car it covers the side marker holes. It does not fit early cars with metal bumpers, either the Euro chrome type or the large US 5 mph type. If you are not sure which you have, send us your year and build date.

Do E30 sun visors come with clips?

The black pairs do not; their listings say clips are not included. The other listings don't mention clips, so ask us if you need them.

Do these parts fit the E30 Touring?

Most listings in this guide name the sedan, coupé or convertible, not the Touring. Send us your car's details before ordering for a Touring.
