Mercedes R107 SL Interior Parts Guide: Cup Holders, Wood Trim, Visors & More

Search for "classic Mercedes" interior parts and much of what comes up won't fit a Mercedes R107. The SL roadster (1971 to 1989, 280SL through 560SL) and its fixed-roof sister, the C107 SLC coupé (1971 to 1981), have trim that is mostly their own: the wood, door panels, seats, sills and visors don't carry over from the sedans of the same era, and some parts even differ between early and late R107s.
This guide goes through the R107 interior part by part: what we stock, which models each listing names, and what to check before you order.
R107 Cup Holder: 560SL vs Other Models
The cup holder is the R107 part people search for most on our site, and the most important thing to know is that the 560SL is different. The zebrano cup holder is made for the R107 range, and its listing asks 560SL owners to add a note to the order because of differences between the 560SL and the other models. For the 560SL there is also a dedicated burl walnut cup holder, which the listing states fits the 560SL only. Late cars also left the factory with burl walnut rather than zebrano, so the burl piece matches the rest of a 560SL cabin.

If you would rather not add more wood to the console, there is a black leather cup holder listed for the 280 to 560 SL and SLC. All three are handmade single pieces.
R107 Wood Trim: Zebrano, Walnut and Burl
R107 dash wood fades and its lacquer cracks with age, and in a roadster it gets more sun than it would in a sedan. Early cars left the factory with zebrano and later cars with burl walnut. We stock the wood in three looks, and it is worth deciding on one before you buy anything else, because every piece in the cabin is visible at the same time.
Zebrano. Straight, striped grain. The zebrano dash trim set fits all R107 models and ships as 11 pieces, whether or not your car has the air-vent dash.
Walnut. Darker grain. The walnut dash trim set is 8 pieces.
Burl. Swirled, knotted grain, made for the console rather than the dash. It is sold as individual pieces or as a 5-piece burl set with the cassette box, climate control panel, shifter frame, ashtray and shift knob. Some burl listings say "walnut color burl" in the title, so go by the photos.

Not sure which finish your car has? A surviving original piece is the best reference. Look at the console or the dash.
Console: Cassette Box, Shifter Frame, Climate Panel and Shift Knob
The console pieces are where mixed finishes show most, so we make them in the same woods as the dash. The cassette box comes in zebrano and walnut. The shifter frame comes in zebrano and burl, and the ashtray in zebrano and burl. If you want the console done in one order, there is a zebrano console set with the shift knob, shifter frame, surround frame and ashtray.
Climate panel. The panel surround is made for the standard controls, for example in zebrano with a 3-button shifter frame, and separately for cars with the digital climate panel. Check which one your car has before ordering.
Shift knob. The automatic shift knob comes in walnut and zebrano. The zebrano listing states that it does not fit the 560SL.
Several of these listings name specific models (for example 280SL, 300SL, 350SL or 380SL), and shifter frames come in plain, one-hole and three-button versions. The zebrano frame linked above is the older automatic type, which the listing describes. Compare the openings with your console and read the title and description against your car before ordering.

R107 Sun Visors and Clips
On a roadster the visors take direct sun for decades, and the vinyl cracks and the clips go brittle and snap. Our R107 visors are sold as left and right pairs. The listings name the 280SL, 300SL, 350SL, 380SL, 420SL, 450SL, 500SL and 560SL.
Visor and clips set. Comes in black, grey, cream, beige, ivory, palomino, tobacco, burgundy, olive green and dark blue, for example palomino, tobacco or black.
Visor with metal bracket clips. The same visor with metal clips in place of the standard ones, for example in black.
Hardware only. If the visors are fine but the hardware is gone, the male and female clip pair and the metal rod bracket set are sold separately.

Match the visor colour to your headliner and door panels, not to the paint.
Door Panels and Glovebox
Door panels sag, split at the armrest and fade unevenly, and on an R107 they are a large part of what you see from the seat. We stock them as left and right pairs, listed for the 280SL, 380SL, 450SL and 560SL from 1972 to 1989. Colours include beige, grey and burgundy, black and dark blue.
These listings name the SL roadsters. If you have an SLC coupé, ask us before ordering.
While you are working on the cabin, check the glovebox too. A broken or missing lid liner is easy to replace with the glove compartment lid insert, listed for both SL and SLC.

R107 Seats: Upholstery Fabric and Seat Belts
R107 seats usually go first at the driver's outer bolster, from getting in and out over the sill, and at the centre panels, where cloth wears through or vinyl splits along the pleats. We sell the material by the metre from a 1.4-metre-wide roll, so you buy what the job needs.
Seat cloth. The R107 seat cloth fabric comes pre-laminated onto scrim foam and is ready to use. The listing allows one metre for the centre panels on the back and base of two seats, and four metres for a complete interior.
Perforated leatherette. The perforated leatherette is listed for the R107 and the W108 to W115 range, in beige, burgundy, black, dark grey and light grey. The listing allows five metres for a complete interior including the door sides.

While the seats are out, look at the belts. The 3-point seat belt pair for the R107 and C107 is retractable, and its listing states ECE and FMVSS 209 certification. Late cars, including the 560SL, were built with pyrotechnic belt tensioners. A standard retractable belt does not replace that function, so check what your car has before ordering.
Door Sills
The ribbed rubber sill covers take every entry and exit, and on most cars they are scuffed, cracked or missing. They are one of the cheapest visible fixes on this list. Most of our pairs carry OEM references 1076860180 and 1076860280, and they are listed for both the SL and SLC. Colours include grey, black and tobacco, among others.

Steering Wheel
Original wheels go shiny and crack at the grip points. The black leatherette steering wheel is listed for the R107 roadster and C107 coupé. It comes without a centre logo, so your existing one goes back on. We need your steering shaft size: add it as an order note, or message us with it after you order.
This wheel has no airbag. It is meant for cars that left the factory without one. US 560SLs from 1986 on, and late European cars ordered with the airbag option, have a driver airbag in the wheel, and fitting this wheel to those cars removes it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the R107 cup holder fit a 560SL?
Not automatically. The 560SL differs from the other R107 models. Order the 560SL-only burl walnut cup holder, or add a note that your car is a 560SL when ordering the zebrano one.
Do R107 parts also fit the C107 SLC?
Many do. The door sills, seat belts, steering wheel, glovebox insert, black leather cup holder and most console wood pieces name the SLC or C107. The door panel listings name the SL roadsters only, so ask us before ordering those for an SLC.
Which colours do R107 sun visors come in?
Black, grey, cream, beige, ivory, palomino, tobacco, burgundy, olive green and dark blue, sold as left and right pairs with clips. If only the clips or brackets have broken, those are sold on their own.
What do I need to recover R107 seats?
Seat cloth or perforated leatherette by the metre. The listings allow one metre of cloth for the centre panels of two seats, four metres of cloth or five metres of leatherette for a complete interior.
What do I need to tell you when ordering the steering wheel?
Your steering shaft size, either as an order note or in a message after you order. The wheel has no centre logo, so you reuse your existing one, and it has no airbag.
